IT'S a holiday tradition that's been enjoyed by generations, but one that's come under increased pressure from developers.
But on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, the traditional caravaning holiday has been given long-term security through the Queensland Heritage Council's register.
The privately-run Tripcony Hibiscus Caravan Park at Caloundra today joined the council-run Cotton Tree and Noosa River caravan parks on the council's heritage register.
The inclusion ensures the locations' future use as holiday parks, amid rapid development on the coast that has squeezed prime waterfront accommodation.
At least eight caravan parks and some council camping reserves have closed in recent years.
